This may be more of a sitepoint-esque post, and I hope I'm placing it in the correct section, but hopefully DP members have some good input.

I've basically been doing seo-type stuff online since november 2003, and was able to make some good money in 04-05. At the same time I've been a student, moving around the world (California to Denmark to California to Washington DC), so I was never able to really set up in an organized manner and have sort of started to drift away from things.

In about a month and a half, however, I'll be graduating, moving to San Francisco and getting set up "for real."

In my particular case I will start out with a home office and if it is too distracting or disorganized I'll switch to a more formal workspace.

I doubt I'll have any issues with motivation--now that I'm completely on my own and obliged to pay the gruesome bay area rental costs, I will HAVE to keep working for survival ;)

I'm wondering what kind of advice DP members have for organizing and setting up a workspace, plan, etc. I realize there are a wide range of activities people on this forum use to earn their income, so there will likely be some variation in responses. In my particular case I will likely start out by building several websites that can profit through affiliate / adsense / paid advertising revenue (already have a few, so also revamping those and taking them to a more professional level).

I realize this is a disjointed and sort of scattered post (and they questions may not be totally clear), but if anyone has any advice for "setting up," goal-setting, and organizing in a way that's helpful for doing good "internet business", I'd love to hear from you.

unless your affiliate and etc. sites are generating huge revenues and you're planning to do more seo, i wouldn't suggest moving into a formal workplace. it's just too much to keep up with both home and office, especially when you're trying to take your business/sites to the next level.

    goal setting? write it down.

i can only offer advice on how to improve your work habits since you'll be home getting distracted =). for me, it's best to have an "in the zone" time. usually passed midnight. by that time, it's hard to distract me. sometimes, i work til the morning. during the day, most of us surf around and runs into topics that are worthy of research time and its easy to fall off track if you follow every lead.

i also work at night because night time shows suck so i wouldn't even turn on the tv. i think that you'll get more work done when you're "in the zone" instead working for several hours and taking breaks.
