Mozilla Firefox Slower than Internet Explorer (IE)

I love Firefox, but I don't like that it takes so much longer for pages to load. On the same computer when I run IE, pages load fast and I can zip around like I want to. Why is this and is there something that can be done about it?

How many extensions do you have installed and what are they? My FireFox isn't the fastest either but I'm sure it's because I have over 30 extensions and many of them interact with the webpage thus slowing down its rendering.

My Firefox blows the doors off of IE...

You might want to look around here, read the stickies and maybe post your problem... :D

I never liked the interface. Before Netscape 6.1 came out I tired opera because Netscape 4.8 was just so old but I just could get into it. And I desparately wanted to because I hated IE and NN was just outdated. But I just didn't like it and suffered through NN 4.8 until Netscape 6.1 came out. (Netscape 6 was so bad I couldn't use that either no matter how hard I tired).

First thing from my view is that Opera Crashes a Lot
IE sucks as net runs in terrible speed and Finally FF Rocks :)

Opera is not faster than FF but it’s also not slower. Trust me on this, use Opera for one week straight and I’m telling you that you’ll never go back. Opera use to have a lot of problems but now it’s a stable fast browser that has many cool features. I thing you should definitely try it out. ;)

A speed comparison I came across today: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html (the results, summarized briefly, show Opera ahead in most areas)

'Course to get Firefox to have the features of Opera you need to install a lot of extensions that make it slower.

Back when I used Windows (couple years ago), it seemed like whichever browser I used most often loaded faster, thus IE seemed fast when first trying Firefox. No idea why that was.

I have always found Firefox to be slow as molasses on a subzero day in January... slow to load, slow to run. Internet Explorer is fast. Opera is fast but rfenders certain pages in an odd way - otherwise, great browser.

    #1 = IE
    #2 = Opera

Firefox I keep around only for testing web pages. Firefox sucks!

My internet explorer is also a lot faster than Mozilla Firefox.
I guess it all depends on what type of computer you have, I have:

    Intel(R)
    Pentium(4) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
    2.79 Ghz
    512 MB of Ram

    Did you know?

Did you know that if hold down the left mouse button and then press one the right button you will go back to the previous page? If you do it the other way round it also works (to go forward). ;)

    New window – CTRL + T
    Homepage – CRTL + spacebar
    Close Window – CTRL + W
    Close Browser – CTRL + Q
    Show Widgets – F6
    Quick Options – F12
Scroll open windows (Tabs) – Right Mouse button pressed down + Mouse Wheel

I probably see the entire net before you guys even get the browser (IE, FF) going!!!
I order everyone here to go straight away “now” here to download Opera 9 beta. Try it out it has many news features and it’s still very fast.
