Multiple cust service people answering emails, how???

Ok, my business is growing to the point that we need more than 1 person answering incoming email messages.

I have looked at sugarcrm for this but it's too much overhead for what I need.
I need to have multiple people be able to answer emails coming in to accounts like

I also need a record of messages sent in case another customer service person checks the messages.

Any thoughts? Of course there's not a lot of budget for this project.

thanks for any advice on software, prefer open source?

There are free support ticket systems out there. I think they have one at hotscripts.com... If not do a search on google for free support ticket systems.

You could also use webmail and give all employees access to the account, but that would be a little tacky.

Feel free to contact me directly if you'd like more help, or post additional questions here.

I've been looking for the last few hours trying to find the right one. so far no luck.

osticket look interesting. The demo doesn't work though. It is listed in their forum but doesn't work. There also isn't enough screen shots to see if it will work for me.

Best bet is to load it up on your sever and test it out. You can usually find some great open source projects at http://www.sourceforge.net

Cerberus Helpdesk is what my host uses. It's not bad overall, although I'm not totally enthralled with it (I wish it listed both open and closed tickets at once, but that's just me.)
