My alexa is 86,439 today!

While the site is still less than a month old, my alexa jumped to 86,439 and I didn't use any "tricks", most of the traffic is from google.

The only thing I don't undestand is that in my server stats I see only 250 uniques/day, so how is that possible?

Michael_G - the fact is that Alexa rankings have no bearing at all on anything. By their own admission Alexa bases its ranking only on those who have downloaded the Alexa toolbar; which is like saying 76% of Americans believe Elvis is still alive when they only asked 158 drunks on the streets of Las Vegas ... not reliable at all.

One of my sites have gone from getting a few hundred visitors a day to over 9000 a day with over 1.5M page views per month - my Alexa rank hasn't changed to reflect. So, do I rely on Alexa to tell me how well I'm doing?

you have today 15 users who are useing alexa toolbar so it boosted your ranking. while your 3 months avg is only 0.3 users who are using alexa toolbar

The "today" number was 245,718 when I checked just now, so you can tell how mercurial it is.

 

My Alexa test site is at 143,141 today. As it should be - it's packed full of great information and everyone who uses the Internet should visit it

 

Which site is this? Sounds like one I need to be advertising on...

 

DP should not be allowed in discussions about traffic. There's nothing like being proud of 20k pageviews in a day and have him chime in with -- oh about 8 billion LOL

 

Then I'm not even going to mention the 100 I got today then. I don't want anyone to feel bad.

Someone explain how this works. Adsense stats for the directory will show about 2,000 page views, other sites dwarf those numbers. As someone said, not a good indicator of traffic.
