Im using escrow at the moment, for a big sum and its well worth the extra cost because when signing a contract before the escrow is sent, nothing can be said by the coder at the end. They just wont get paid

I am in agreement up to the point where you say "you may earn as freelancer". If you can do it yourself, focus on working on your own stuff. With freelancing, you really need to spend a lot of time teaching the client how to ask for all of what they really want and they usually don't know until the project is well under way.

I understand that some PHP coders may be better about this but...there probably are more coders out there than people willing to pay. Also in the sense that one PHP coder can do more than a project at a same time.

You're the one with the money, meaning you're the one with the potential to be scammed.

It's sad because I've worked with kids who are 16-17 and they're much more honest than say the..I'm guessing late 20 to 30s something I've worked with.

Yeah, that's true! But the problem lies equally for the PHP programmers. It really is very sad when after putting in so much hardwork, the client runs-away without paying.

That comes as a little bit surprise for me because I thought people in their 30s took this biz more seriously. But yeah, there are 'rotten apples' in all age-groups, you just have to pick up the right one. (I know it isn't very easy)

If there are any colleges near you, call them and ask if they have a student job board you could post your project on. You can get a good CS or MIS student to do your project for about $10/hr. They can use it as part of their resume and portfolio.
