Main thing I would suggest, is check out webpagesthatsuck.com, and then come back and try it again.

    sorry

Lol I got an infraction for posting in the wrong forum.....these mods are fcking losers!

MOD: 40 year old pervert who spends all his days looking at porn then coming onto a forum and using their super dooper amazing mod powers to give "infractions"....lol idiots!

Didnt get a "oops..your obviously new mate, I'll help you out and move this to the right place. Kepp out of trouble bud"

    MODS GET A LIFE!

...now a mod will read this and say "He realised that we are infact losers, I must now prove his point and ban his account!"

lets see if my point will be proved!

I don't care anymore, my first ever thread, asking for help and some 'nobody' drunk on obsolete and useless "power" tries to punish me.

And ur saying I'm out of line calling the mod that did it a loser?
Im not gna post anymore coz this is just turning into the opposite of what I intended this thread to be :(

man please chill out. i know how you feel, i do agree that would be nice to be spread more kindness among us. And also sometimes we designers can be very competitive and unhelpful.

Regarding your design is a nice start :) you are keeping the main structure for the site, Header, content, an so. And i can tell you made an effort to make it nice looking, the thing is that it looks "dated" cuz it got a design style very use in the early 90. It would be nice to check the current web 2.0 style from webpage i could suggest you a great article self explanatory of all the elements that will make your site look "up to date"

    www.webdesignfromscratch.com/current-style.cfm

Dont get disappointed is you get bad reviews you will get a lot of then in your designers life as well as words of encouragement

    Nervous!!! please edit your posts

    well.. regarding your webdesign:
    -a lot of images ( http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ )
-the dark colours may hurt (depending on your topic)
-I can't see the bottom, is there any footer or sitemap
    -I'll give it 3.75/5

Thanks, I didn't have a theme in mind, just decided to start a design coz I was bored. Wasn't going for a template that someone would be interested in using, just made it to pass the time and wanted to see if others thought that the 45mins it took me were worth while.

    Duznt matter anymore.
    thanks anyways

oh yeah, you're going to last a LONG time in this field lol

you sound like a young kid so I'll try to make this as painless as possible
FYI -you don't get any free passes in life
the big bad world is NOT school - where you're coddled by teachers
ignorance of forum TOS or life in general is no excuse - it just shows your ignorance
getting mad and stomping all over the place makes you look like a 3-year old
getting angry and indifferent over feedback YOU asked for is juvenile and shows you have no willingness to learn
what it DOES show is that came in here and posted hoping to have some sunshine blown up your a$$

sorry, this is the wrong place

    Vanessa,

Must say your comments are quite off the mark and very irrelevant.

FIRSTLY) If you use your eyes for a change you will notice that my posts ask for criticism and I didn't once brush off the comments people left; my "rant" was at getting punished for posting in the wrong place, the place being "suggestions and feedback" which is what I am needing, HENCE why I posted there! That blows your comment of "ignorance of TOS" out of the water as well as me "getting angry over feedback"

SECONDLY) I am new to design. We all start somewhere. the closest I came to starting graphical design before now was in school where I got A's for "Art and Design" and "Graphical Communication" (a few years back). Was bored one night so spent an hour on this to pass the time.

THIRDLY) I don't need a lecture about life from a kid like you, as you have just proved from ur post that your quite immature and not very good at reading.

FINALLY) You haven't left any comments about the design...so your spamming.

I think you should take a new look at your life vanessa.
Sorry, but I just cant argue with people with a lower mentality than myself.

    NIGHT NIGHT :D

Firstly let me start of by saying that for a first design you have done very well. You seem to have grasped the basics of web design and positioning.

The first problem I see with your design is that the Google ads have a transparent background you might want to sort that out : ). Secondly your camouflage like background doesn’t seem to be a repeating pattern; if you want your site to be resource friendly then you should fix that. The last critiques I have of your site is that the main text does not contrast enough with the background and the menu buttons don’t seem to have a description i.e home, forums, about me. Websites are all about usability, its hardly usable if you don’t know what each button corresponds to ;)

Like I say though for a first design I would be very proud, when I first started I never had anything as substantial as that. Keep it up, a little while to go before you’re a pro though : )

    I did read your post
and yes, you are clearly bent out of shape over the infraction, I'll give you that

    doesn't matter anymore?
I can see you're clearly deflated and now talking down your design as if it was "nothing"
why post it to begin with if you thought it was nothing special?
    why the change of heart?

I didn't post my feedback because I after reading the earlier replies I thought you just weren't up to it
    but since you asked....

    - there's way too many textures going on, aim for one - two at most and on carefully selected design elements - not all over the place

    - the button links are too esoteric and will confuse your visitors, these kinds of buttons work best on well-designed portfolio sites that have a definite theme and are showcasing individuality and ingenuity - they shouldn't be used unless your site fits the above criteria

    - the saturation of the medium grey text on light grey background is too close, change to a darker font

    about the design itself:

    - what is metal band around the content supposed to represent?
it looks like metal but has perfectly round cheese-like holes through it - I'm not getting it

Was just playing around with photoshop.
Like I said I'm new and never used it before. posted it to see if someone thot it was a god start for a beginner, then I'd consider continuing to improve it if it got some feedback.

    I'll apply your suggestions.

For the domain name and icons on your buttons: use the SAME blue as the adsense ad links (it'll make the site MORE appealing and make the ad blend in better!)
