My first PSD website template test

I've started playing with PSD template, I know this one is pretty basic, but I would like some feedback on how I can improve this, I've already have a few other design ideas and will be working on them but I would like to see how I can improve this one as well.

The banner and logo should be together, use less gradients. Besides that its a good first attempt.

Its a good attempt. Like BlueFlame said above you can use lighter colours and also you can align the banner along the logo so you get more space to add content. Overall its a good first try.

It's definitely a good first shot, although I think it's a bit clustered and "dull", but that's just my personal opinion.

Don't use bevel/emboss....it's way too amatuerish and doesn't look good.

my advice would be to try to stay away from heavy graphics and focus more on organizing content on the page, that way you will end up with much more usable templates!

also you should check out good-tutorials and search their web design tutorials

hmm its still a but amateur, what you need to do is find a way to organize the page and then start designing the page.

My personal advise to you. Get hold of a template that you like that don't have much graphics in it. Try to replicate it completely from the start, without using many premade graphics. That'll help you more.

wow definitely much better, but you still need to lean to combine elements, like use dreamweaver to do the background and try to do some rollovers and remember less is more sometimes. Great start :D

That's a huge improvement over the original. I'm not liking the white 'bars' on your banner, and you would do best to choose another font for it. Other than that, you might want to use a non-serif font for your content. Usually Verdana is considered the best/easiest/commonly found font for that.
