The background looks very dull and lifeless....

You can use more colorful stock charts....but do take care to not make it very loud.

    The text otherwise looks great...

    That is not a logo.

What you have created is a graphic that has a word on it. Very different things. If at the very least you want me to analyze the wordmark itself, there's not much I can say about it. Is that a wooden paneling fill you've coloured it with? for what possible reason! The kerning is inconsistent, and I see jagged edges on the font - how does a vector shape get jagged edges?

To me what this looks like is you typing something in photoshop, colouring it and adding some stuff to it, and then thinking that makes a logo - but it doesn't, and to say it does totally devalues the entire trade of graphic design.

The best thing you could do if you wanted to learn about good logo design, but didn't want to hire a trained designer or go to school yourself, would be to research one of the greatest logo designers ever: Paul Rand. He didn't have much artistic talent, but he was smart and his logos have lasted 40 years some of them.

Best of luck, I love logo design and it's the purest form of graphic design that there is, which also means to do correctly, it is the hardest part of graphic design for a trained designer to do.

Yeah I would have to agree with the above poster. This is not a logo at all- it is a banner, if you'd like to call it that. The text is pixelated and poorly made. You should read up on some tutorials. You're just a beginner, so don't worry ;) Just keep practicing. Remember that the most important thing in logo design in creativity, not necessarily artistic ability. Be familiar with the important features of the program that you are using, and with a good imagination you will undoubtedly make memorable and well designed logos.

and yes, innovati, Paul Rand was one of the best logo creators. His logos are alive to this day- they include the logos of abc, ups, and ibm, amongst others. A truly great designer.

well i think its good for a newbie, needs more work to refine, get rid of the pattern fill in the text, put a gradient on the background.

the look is good, but it will not be resizeable for various applications... you need to do some research on vector art if you are looking to design a real logo.

not bad for a beginner - but as so mny before me have said it is not really a logo as such, more just some text on an image... keep at it tho, its never easy to start with (or ever really, to be honest!!!)

As someone said above, its more like a header image than a logo.

Its fine as a beginner, but only as a beginner. You need a long way to go in order to be competitive at any level.

It's a good start. The font could be more interesting. Check out www dot dafont dot com. You can actually type in a phrase and it will render it in multiple fonts. It's a great tool for getting started. When designing logos, make sure they reproduce well in a single color and in multiple sizes. The single color could come into play when sponsoring a high school booster club program, newspaper ads, business cards, etc.
