It was a contest she won of sorts. They got such good results doing it (the Zone 91.3 here in Victoria & area) that they do it regularly and ongoing quite a bit now, so lots of people get to do it, but they say for every person they get on the air there, 2 or more additional people apply, so they'll never be able to get everyone on there, you'll still have to win the contest, but much better chances than your average contest since it's limited to people in the area that want to do it and lots of winners will be selected. I think they select people according to their opinion of how well they would do the job instead of randomly, but I didn't ask or find that out...

We managed to get her website at the company site plugged on the radio, so that was pretty cool. I helped her put the site up over 2 days right before it, and it got about 100 unique visitors and over 700 pageviews when I checked the Analytics stats when we got home, 3 days ago the site didn't exist at all, so that's pretty good, and I imagine more will come and the data probably hadn't even had to post everything, plus there's the link on the Zone's facebook wall and whatever else they did with it so could keep traffic coming in for a while.
I'll be posting pictures and the recording of the show on the site soon, we got to take home a nice USB card, the credit card style with the flip out usb connection, with their fancy zone logo on it with the recording of the whole thing.

The kids got to leave their coloring pictures on the wall in there too. They had a blast.
