Myspace to market, websites/products?

Hey everyone, just wondering what you thought of using Myspace to market something. As in getting tons of friends and then posting bulletins about your product or new website/blog.

I've heard that it can be effective but there are risks involved just as is stated above.

It's very difficult to market on MySpace. You can easily get your accounts flagged and deleted. Also there is so much spam on MySpace right now that most people either ignore, delete or report it.

It is something i think that needs to be done correctly if you try to do it. I try to balance the type of content i create for my myspace page, not only for what types of bulletins i post, but also making sure that my friends know why i put out the links in the bulletins, but also that I also put out "normal" non-advertising based information as well.

Try to not blatantly advertise your product/services so much. PM me and I can give you some advice on what has worked for me in the past...

It works great if its an active account and they are true friends, most of the time its just a bunch of people that dont pay attention to the ads people send out. I hardly ever look at them unless they are from a true friend.
Also depends on what you want to promote. If your promoting a club it works great especially if you have friends in the same area as the night club. If your promoting webmaster products, I doubt you would make any money.
    Good Luck

I can tell you that myspace marketing isn't worth anything. There is too much spam there right now that EVERYTHING legitimate or spam goes ignored. Collectively I have 20,000 friends on 3 accounts, and it simply doesn't work.

I think it could work if you do it properly without spamming.

If you're going to market an edgey youthful clothing line or even a band, then it could be done since the main users of myspace (those who are youth) would be interested in them, so it wouldn't be as annoying. Plus since it is such a targeted audience it's more effective as well.
