Saying that you need a girlfriend sounds like you might lack a little bit of confidence. It might be better to take on the approach that you want a girlfriend. Confidence is the number one attribute that you can have when seeking a girlfriend. Confidence takes precedence over all including looks, money, etc. I cannot answer why this is true but women are strange creatures. This is why you see hot girls with idiots in life, lol.

With that said, my advice would be to start talking to people when out in the public. Practice your communication skills and smile a lot. Cashier's in retail stores including convenience stores like Mini mart Gas stations, 7-Elevens, etc are good places to start your new personality change. For examples, if they are women then smile regardless of they look like and ask them how they are doing today, or comment on the weather, etc. If they are men then comment on the weather or anything just to enhance your communication abilities. This all builds confidence especially dealing with strangers. You need to talk with both men and women to build your confidence. You will be surprised on the feedback you get just by communicating with strangers and or people you know. This will help you to become a more outgoing person rather than a stick in the mud personality type.

True story, last week I was in a line at Menards waiting to pay for some lumber. The cashier was a hot female. When it became my turn to checkout I smelled her perfume. I commented on it. I looked in her eyes and smiled, Then I said, "You smell so good". "What kind of perfume are you wearing"? She told me what kind it was. I said, "That sure smells great". "What store did you buy it from"? She told me the name of the store. I then said, "I'm gonna have to buy some of that for my girlfriend". lolol. She was flirting with me before I said that but I also made her smile. You see women love it when a man can make them smile. lolol.
