Need CMS recomendation

Hello can someone please recommend a CMS for me?

Option 1: My goal is to have a forum where I can upload files for others to download. And I want the forum to be easily manageable. If there is free software then please just recommend this. I already have a host and domain. If this cant be done, then read on.

option 2: If I cant have a forum where I could download stuff then I'm looking for an easy to navigate manager that so I can edit the page to post daily announcements and upload multiple downloadable files onto a web page. Also, I would eventually like to add a standard forum to the website. I'm thinking phpBB would suffice.

So, do I need a manager for the first option? And if so which would be simplest to upload and initiate?

For the second option which would work best?

    Thanks everyone!

phpbb3 is a free forum board, but if u want more looking good, u can purchase vbulletin, or use nulled script, make sure your host allow you to run nulled script.

If you know HTML, phpbb is a good choice. You can modify the design so it look unique on you.

I suggest drupal, it comes with a build in forums module. It is simple to hand and it has a front end as far as having a portal.

You can also use Simple Machines Forum, it is much easier to configure and maintain than phpBB. Then you can install TinyPortal mod for the front end. Everything else will still run on the forums and the portal will display announcement posts from whatever forum you choose.

1- SMF is the easiest free to use forum with regards at administration and it got a lot of mods and themes that you can install w/ only one click. The PortaMx is a really nice Portal for this forum if you`ll decide to go with ver.2 of SMF,if not, than are a lot of portals for ver.1 too.

2- If you`ll change your mind and decide to look just for a simple to customize and manage CMS than go for WordPress. It is just like SMF for forums,1 click install for mods and themes.

    Both got d/l managers [mods]

    best regards,

I still think phpbb is one of the better options, although you might want to take a look at CMS Made Simple.

Vbulletin with the Downloads II modification from vbulletin.org should do the job just fine. The downloads II mod is free, but you will have to buy a license for VB.

I have that mod installed on my forum and my members really like it. You can even limit certain user groups to a certain number of downloads ever 24 hours.

I would use SMF with a downloads center modification, or pair up SMF with mkPortal. Both work really well.

If you want to pay for a CMS, try Subdreamer. It works really well with forum integration.

SMF for sure, they are outstanding... again I'd say vBulletin is better, but SMF is number 2 for sure!

Drupal allows attachments and you can integrate phpbb and SMF within Drupal. Might be a little tougher to set up but I like that you also get other content types to set up a blog or story nodes, etc.
