Need Photoshop help with 'shine animation' tutorial

    Eh guys,

I'm trying to follow along with this tutorial. It's the shine animation one (you have to scroll down).

I am not managing to get the effect to happen within the selection I made.

    Here is what I did:

    1) Image is gif, so I made it RGB color so I can edit properly.
    2) I used the polygon tool to make a selection and right-clicked 'layer via copy'.
    3) I created a new layer and made a gradient as per the tutorial.
    4) Clicked on Control G and blended to 'overlay'.

The Imageready animation part is fine, but it's the above part I'm not getting.

How do I restrict the gradient to within the selection?

    thanks for the love.

You have to keep the little shoulder patch selected. After creating the gradient layer, CTRL-click the shoulder patch layer (the result of layer via copy), this will select the whole layer aka the shoulder patch. Make sure you are back on the gradient layer with the selection still active. Then when you use the gradient tool, it will only fill the contents of the selection.
