Need some help. Looking for a good FREE CMS system.

    Ok,

I'm not sure if this is a CMS program I'm looking for or what, but this is what I'm looking for (I'm new to this.):
A system where I can have a database of articles where users can submit there articles and it will display on my page, but have a link to the original article & author.

Probably more options I'm looking for, but this is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Anyone can help and possibly further explain what a CMS system is.

    Thanks,
    J Fontestad

Wordpress is very popular, you might give Drupal a look too.

I'd just go with wordpress for this purpose. Its ultra easy to get set up if you have cpanel web hosting.

Its easy for people to sign up and register their articles.

Well I may just try WordPress.
One question, does it allow me to review the articles being submitted? Like does it have an approve decline option?
Because I don't want to allow spammy articles or useless articles to be posted.

Yeah it sure does allow you to approve or decline. Plus if you have trusted authors you can just allow them to publish automatically should you choose.

I agree that wordpress is just unmatched for general CMS purposes. The variety of free plugins is amazing. I experimented with non-wordpress CMSs for some time before converting, but with their smaller user bases (and usually, great complexity), I wasn't happy with the results. PLUS, without naming names, a fairly popular "lite" CMS I recently used was insecure and there was no mailing list to let installers know about it. My site got hacked and my host threatened to kick me off if it happened again. That won't happen with WP, or if it does, you'll hear about it.
