I have decided to take out of my monthly check ($2,500), which isn't much but more than homeless people have, and cook/provide food at least two fridays a month in a public space to feed the homeless/people in need.

My question is, do I need any city permits? Also, how should I go about finding volunteers to help me serve the people for free? I don't know many people in town and those that I do know are very different when it comes to life views.

It depends on where you are but in most cases you will always need a permit if it is city/government owned property. The right to do so is easy to obtain and most counsel will agree to it simply because it is also good publicity for them since most is elected in. But I can't see you being able to do it without a permit. BUT what a good idea is, is to find a business in the area you want to do it in and talk to the owner its free publicity for them and you can get away with doing it for practically free(other then food costs)
