I've got a skyscraper Adsense block on the side of this site: www.listedwrong.com.

Any ideas on where else should I place them, and what sizes to use? Can I mix one in with the search results?

A large rectangle above the "Save money..."

And a link unit above the large rectangle

If you use any of the rectangles, I'd rig it up to have images next to them - people seem to click more with little images next door. Take this site for example to see what I mean: http://www.onlinelegalsource.com/

Across the top there are the text google ads but they've added images above them that are related to the content... see what I mean?

I've seen that help a bunch.

Well .... your site and ads placement looks ok, maybe you can try with one additional ad unit in center column and link unit at the top of center column.

2ndPlatform - I've done that on a couple of other sites, I wrote a little script to rotate the ads so they change on every page load. The problem is that I don't have the space for a 728x90. Maybe I could do that with a 468x60?

AdsenseAddict - the large rectange is kind of huge, I would think that would detract from the text of the main page... no?

To turn off the "advertise on this site", I do that in the "my account" setup in Adsense, right? Do I need to change the source for the ad or will it do it automatically? And how long does it take?

You could probably do the rotating image thing with any size -- just reconfigure your script for the different sizes. It's pretty effective, don't you think?

Yeah, it is. I tried it out, putting a 468x60 with images above it down towards the bottom of the main page... It looked too big, I think. Kinda made the page look like ads with some content, instead of the other way around. Maybe I'll just leave it for now, the CTR doesn't totally suck right now, just the earnings do. :-(
