    Has anyone else seen this format before ?

    I thought it was interesting, no "Ads by Google" either.

    Found it here and I have verified its real and they are not using any css tricks to hid the "Ads by Google"

    The lower ads do have the 'ads by google' on them - bottom of page. Premium publisher or has he just fiddled with the code for the top ads?

    adsense, they are served up by another service.
    The bottom ads are google and are correct.

    Premium publishers are basically owners of very high traffic sites which allow them to negotiate a better rate and customisation of layout. You can apply to become a premum publisher or you can get asked. By high traffic, I mean 20 million page views a month, although this isn't a concrete number. www.about.com is an example of a premium publisher.

    From looking at the source, it looks like it's coming from Doubleclick to me. Which leads me to ask, is Doubleclick considered contextual? It sure looks contextual to me, but I suppose it could just be a good job of manually picking ads to run on a page.

    Funny thing about right-clicking and looking at Properties... yes, if you right-click on that area and go to Properties, it shows Google. But, if you go to the obvious Google ad and right-click, it doesn't show Google.

    ok so the block IS from doubleclick, if you look at the javascript include you see that.

    but the links are from: googlesyndication.com
    and the ad unit is from here:
    http://pagead2.googlesyndication.co...40&u_his=50&u_java=true&u_nplug=24&u_nmime=90

    Live HTTP headers shows it goes through this:
    http://pagead2.googlesyndication.co...nt&Srh=Turntable&client=ca-primedia-pbmm_html

    My guesses:
    - google has feed partners
    - its an alternative ad served in the case of not having a doubleclick ad for the page

    also that shows that since it is still an ad from google, it must be a premium publisher
