New iMac for less than $500?

So now that I've been (almost) regretting turning down an iPod for Christmas I got into thinking about (maybe) getting a Mac... then all of sudden this story of a sub $500 buck iMac turns up... http://news.com.com/A+new+iMac+for+under+500/2100-1042_3-5508745.html

If they even did a GBP500.00 iMac I'd consider it

that's just a rumor.... hopefully it's true. We'll have to wait until January to see. However you can get an eMac for about 500 now.

LOL rumour maybe but I too hope I can grab a Mac for 500 bucks. Anthony, if I buy you a 500 dollar Mac that'd make me have to skip Vegas & the Big Apple... no pun intended

Uhh, that ad said mac, not imac. And if it also said without a monitor to, so it would mean not an emac and not an imac.

My 20" imac g5 costs 2,000; however a monitor comarable to my imac costs 1300 which means that the other than my monitor the mac costs 700. (in theory) So I would believe they can make an inferior weak mac for 500 or less.
