    Hi,

    My question is:

Whether to start a new site and build it from scratch or to buy a Established site?

    Whats your opinion on this?

Anybody can buy an established site, but if you want longterm and to take pride in your work; make a new site.

I think I agree here. With a new site you can craft it exactly how you want to. You sort of need to go with the theme that is there with an established one as you won't want to ruin the revenue stream.

it would depend on your niche vs how long it would take to rank a new site up in the serps vs the price of the established site and any rev / traffic thats already goinng to the established site, with out posting the urls in question and price its very hard to give you any solid advice.

If you have a good idea for new site and ability to create it and make it running, build it from scratch ... if you are not able or simply don't know what niche to start with, look around for established sites.

i think it depends.. if you see a good site for sale for a cheap price you can buy it.. but it's hard to find right now a good site for sale.
on the other hand starting your own will take you time to make it big.

Start from scratch so you know your systems and scripts inside out. Spend the excess on advertising.

According to me,buying established site is better than new one since established site is already earning and you would recover your cost and for new site, you have to make it revenue earning site to benefit from it :)

Established sites can really provide added value, if you know what to look for. For example, the count and quality of links, where they go, age, history, domain has value, etc. Get it wrong, can loose the rank position, links, etc. A bit of due diligence, and an established site/domain can really save time... The site can always be optimized to suit your flavor.

There are significant SEO benefits to using an 'aged domain', and you can of course redesign the site in any way you wish. However, not all established sites are created equal. Be careful about what you're buying. As Reedo said, check the number & quality of the backlinks first.

You might also want to look at what the site has been used for in the past (via the 'Wayback Machine' etc), just in case your site has a murky history.
You probably don't want to set up a respectable Dentistry site at something called "Oral Expert" dot com, only to find that it's been used as a seedy porn site for the past decade!

Established sites can be awesome investments but you need to do your homework on what you're buying.
