Newbie AdSense publisher puts "the ugly look" to the test

Good day! I'm nearly finished with this site, http://linkme.ath.cx/tetris-attack-pc and am wondering if there are any problems as far as the design and advertising that I should confront. So far I'd think my visitors don't like it, but I have yet to wait longer than a week for it to pick up. So yea, just wondering what you guys will say.
Also, I'm wondering, seeing as how I'm going to allow users to upload images (to this site and others) if it's okay to display AdSense ads on pages that have pictures which I've OK'ed, and then have pages of not-yet-moderated pictures without ads?

I don't know if "the ugly look" quite necessarily translates into "blind the visitor as soon as he sees the page". :)

Maybe it's just your monitor, jack... I managed to look at the page for a solid 8 seconds before I went blind :D

No offense to phree-radical but I'd much rather see an experienced AS user "put the ugly look to the test" as they would know about all the ins and outs of the ads, as well as have a reference of what a nice-looking site can do. Any takers? *cough*jackburton*cough* :D

lol is it really that bad! :)

I believe it but I'm not totally sure why ::(

I will not be deterred! I must learn from this that appears to possibly be a mistake!

yah turn the colors down a bit. the reasons websites become popular isn't because of the "ugly" look or what not, it's because the websites bring value to the user.

"Ugly look" is the correct term for what you're wanting to do... it's the lack-of-design look. Very basic, not very colourful. Just a simple design using browser default colours. At least that won't make people leave instantly due to harsh colours. A site people can actually browse and see the ads on...

Good luck with this effort. ;-)

It worked well for someone, but on their site one could actually look at the screen to see the ads..

Now here's a hot question: who of you thinks that site would do better ad-revenue-wise if I reduced it to only one page that had the list of games, and a friendly ad unit lit up over on the side?

(Currently my average earning only drops every day)

Thanks to you, so many cool people who fed me back :)

whatever you do please turn the colors down. I truly had to decrease the brightness of my TFT in order to NOT become bline!
