Newbie - How do I optimize my site??????

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by www.e-booked.com, Feb 14, 2005.

    Hi,

Right now I'm running www.e-booked.com and we've been surviving (almost!)on the odd affiliate sale and word-of-mouth. But here's the thing: our search rankings are terrible!

It would be great if we could appear somewhere in searches for "ebook wholesaler" or "wholesale ebooks". Anything to do with eBay would be useful too, since many of our customers use it - "eBay", "ebooks on eBay" etc. How do I improve my ranking? Where am I going wrong? Do I need reciprocal links or do I need to change my meta-tags?

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to search engines, but I know we must be losing hundreds of visitors because of that low ranking. Please help!

    Thanks in advance!

    e-Booked!

Go through as many posts on this site as possible. There is a wealth of info here...
Not all the info is correct, but if it is not...somebody with more knowledge shows the way...

Its going to take some time, probally at least a few months...but it is a wonderful investment in your future.

Consider it a six month project.

Start out doing on-page optimization. That will be enough for some uncompetitive search terms, but not for competitive ones. On page optimization is things like - using the keyword in the title of the page, in an h1 tag, in bold letters, etc. Try to match keyword density with top listed sites for your targeted keyword.

Then work on off-page optimization. Recruit inbound links. Join the coop network. Use good anchor text within your site.

    Update your pages regularly.

    Add new pages frequently.

Pray to some sort of third level demigod.

Stop paying attention for a week to regain your sanity.

    Then start all over again.

    Oh yeah...

Do starter research on your own. Ask questions here when you don't understand something. Commit yourself to updating or creating at least 1 page every day. Start a blog about your experience. Help others when you have the knowledge.

    Hi
Just an observation but the 2 phrases you suggest for optimization are searched just 3 and 4 times per day (wordtracker tool on this site).
IMHO you either need phrases that are searched more frequently or a different strategy
    Good Luck

The "Stop paying attention for a week to regain your sanity" is the important step.

That and praying to some sort of third level demigod. :)

It takes a while to see results -- but from my experience, once things get going, you see results faster. Good luck!
