No ads in my skyscraper

I had one skyscraper on my index page. When I found out that I can have up to three, and two additional link ads on one page, I put another skyscraper code there. It showed perfect - I had two skyscrapers showing 5 ads each. Then I played with color theme. Went back to Google and changed colors, updating my index page and checking how it looks. At one point this second skyscraper stopped showing at all - despite that the code was there. Finally I removed its code. After that, I noticed that my original skyscraper started showing only 3 ads instead of 5. And this morning only 1 ad, sometimes 2. I am already loosing revenue - pretty upsetting since my index page is the most popular. I send a question about this to Google and I'll see what they will tell. In the meantime, does anyone know why is that?

Sounds like you may have inadvertently deleted or scrambled some of the AS code. You are only permitted to have 1 ad links unit per page, and you can have up to 3 regular ad units as well on each page. If you ad more units the ads will either act freaky or won't show at all.

I have only 1 regular ad (the skyscraper), and 1 adlink advertisement. I copied/pasted the code perfectly. Also, the same skyscraper on my other page on the same website shows all 5 ads in it just as it should. Could the problem that Google hasn't crawled my index page yet again ? It shows a nice skyscraper in Googles cache when I click on it after doing search for my website on Google. The cache is 4 days old - could it be that after making changes this gets screwed up and I have to wait till Google crawls my website again ?

hmmm... i don't know what to say... I haven't done anything that should change the display of ads in the skyscraper, yet in the whole 600 pixels it shows only one advertisement (it's been 15 hours since this happened). One ad in 600 pixels of background - it makes my site look ugly.

I read the Adsense Optimization Tips page, but nothing there helps my problem...

The problem is simple. The google computer does not have anything else to serve that matches your sites criteria. That is why you have 1, 2, 3 or more ads showing at different times. When your content changes your ads will change along with it. If the primary site does not show the ads. Change to another ad scheme that better suites. Believe me, your efforts to "fix" the problem will come to nothing. I see this problem all the time on my site. I change the feed for posts or how many days the post should run and the added content changes google ad.

    Good Luck

Also, the 'Ad inventory' for any particular topic is constantly changing as advertisers start and stop campaigns.

Thanks! I guess there are many parameters that interact and can influance the ads for at least a while. Actually I am thinking of completely rebuilding my website and optimize it for AdSense - at least set it up in such way that it will be a snap to place ads in different locations on the pages of my website.

The ads just showed an hour ago and I am back in business.

It can happen that the active ads for the 'keywords' on your page might have been reduced.

I had a similar problem too.

I had one large rectangle in the main content area and a skyscraper on the sidebar. A lot of times the sidebar wouldn't show anything, probably because there weren't enough active ads to show. So I changed the skyscraper with a vertical banner (2 ads) and now most of the times both units display ads.

So if your keywords don't have enough ads, just choose smaller units. Plus, you can usually make the smaller units blend in better.
