Norton System Works Question

Yesterday my Norton System Works expired and weird thing happend I can not run windows media player and there is no toolbar any more on my laptop. I haven't been on Internet with that computer for a days and I regularly scanned it for viruses and everything. I can not even uninstall it and install new anti virus program now.
I wonder is it possible that Norton "release" viruses from quarantine after your subscription expire.

No Norton should not Release anything...

Is there a *Thin Gray Bar Along the Bottom of the Screen?"... It's possible your Task Bar got set to *Auto-Hide* somehow... If you put the mouse over the bar the Task Bar will show up if that's the case...

Go to Nortons site and look for the instructions on removing the program...

Myself I would try a *Restore* (if your using Windows XP) and restore Windows back to a point before this started happening then Uninstall Norton and find something better...

How often do you *Defrag* Your Hard Disk???... That's also something that should be done once in a while...

You might also consider you may have some Malware/Trojans on your system and you need to scan for them if you have the software to do it...

No. Something else has happened. I sounds like you may have been infected with some form of malware because Norton is no longer updating.

    Try this (assuming Windows XP):

    - see if you can download AVG and ZoneAlarm from the net; if you can't connect, check your hosts file for entries the malware may have added - delete those and then make the hosts file read-only; then download AVG and ZoneAlarm - while you're at it download Microsoft Antispyware

    - disconnect from the net

    - see if you can do a System Rollback; if successful, try to uninstall SystemWorks (this may still be blocked)

    - install AVG and ZoneAlarm and make sure they're active; install Microsoft AntiSpyware

    - do a full system scan for both viruses and spyware before you connect to the net again

Guess we need the OP to define: *Yesterday my Norton System Works expired*... As in his Subscription "EXPIRED" or Norton just "Quit Working"... That would help..

Good point. I assumed the former.

But either way, this happened to my youngest son's computer while he was downloading some songs with LimeWire... I had him follow the procedure I described above and he was able to fix it.
