Not doing well with Adsense

    My site is selbourne.com.

All of a sudden I have seen a spike in the number of visitors to my site (more than 100% increase). However the revenues from ADSENSE clicks have almost vanished. Its few cents in a week now....down from few dollars a week.

This has happened over a period of around 3 months. It was around this time that I had updated the ADSENSE positions and sizes based on the reviews on the internet of what works best. This was done so as to increase the revenues from ADSENSE.

I have tried to make changes...however its not been successful.....and now I have removed the ADSENSE from the site top banner area. Now I just have an ADSENSE on the left navigational area.

Would really appreciate your comments / suggestions.

Online advice is never as good as actually testing for yourself what works.

That said: if you still don't have a regular 1000 (or so) visitors a day - getting traffic should be more of a concern for you then making money off your site. Testing (with channels and all that) only works well when you have enough visitors.

One more note: that page is a professional page where you sell your services as a webdesigner, right? Having ads on sites like that looks very unprofessional, IMO. It could cost you customers.

off the top of my noggin ...

1 - traffic to your site became untargeted (look at your awstats to see how long pple stay on your site)
2 - adsense is not delivering teh correct ads on your site (not related) ... try the adsense viewing too and play araound with it
3 - my favorite one --- your site has become usefull enough that people use your services and no longer have a need to go to competitors and click their ads :)

Thanks for your comments. Well the traffic is under 500 a day. However I was earning more with half the traffic before.

Yes its a professional site. However its been six months that I have taken any new clients from the site, as I have developed a rooster of consultants sending me work on a regular basis.
So just thought about making my idle site work for me.

Would still suggestions ...any thing that I can try.

In your case, you being from India and all, the visitors are probably from India as well? And they would not actually be likely to find high paying ads on your site - adsense is geo-targeted as you probably know.
So the variation could in your case be due to the variation of the source of your visitors.
But looking at it now I don't see any adsense ads above the fold (on my screen without scrolling). This will not help getting people to click.

    Thanks KH7 for commenting.
Well most of the visitors to my site are from the USA. I have changed my browser res to 800 and can see the adsense ad (left nav). Whats you res and do you have additional tool bars on your browser ?

I see it now - so well blended I ignored it ;) I would get rid of that border, since the elements above the ad don't have a border either.

I think your site looks too busy and the text is too small. Too much going on that I don't concentrate on one area.

we are not allowed to say, you know. But generally the amount is dependent on:
    - CTR
    - amount of visitors
    - niche (topic)

There are various threads in the adsense forums on amounts people make.
