Offers to Buy/Partner With My Website

Hello all, I have a question and I hope I'm posting in the right forum. I run a few websites independently and one of them has gotten quite popular in the past few months. Traffic continues to go up each month and ad networks are knocking on my door. (Well, my email inbox rather).

So.. on Monday of this past week, I received an email from a rather large and well-known company (which will remain nameless for obvious reasons) who is interested in buying or acquiring my site. I did an email exchange with the person after verifying where he was from. A couple days after that, I got an email from another large site that wants me to join their lucrative blog network. There is a contract involved with that one.

The only problem is that the first company has not come straight out to tell me exactly what they want. They said they are working on the proposal and will get it out to me soon. The person I'm dealing with via email will not answer anything to me straight out. Meanwhile, company #2 wants me to join their network and has laid the details out on the table. I'd like to join but I want to find out what company #1 has to offer.

So my question is this: has this happened to any of you, and what should I expect to happen? I am totally clueless with stuff like this and can't afford a lawyer. If company #1 makes me an offer, what is involved? And is it normal for a company not to answer your questions directly?

Any advice you guys have would be much appreciated!

 

Hmm... Are you making big money out of your site ?? If so, remain fearless/independent and tread along!
Also, find out the authencity of these offers, ask them for details featuring their credibility, like their Phone Number/Verified addresses and Websites and so!
Donot ... I repeat Donot go in for Round answers, discuss the offers in PMs with some of the DP members ...
And if they are found credible only then go for them, but on a contract basis, ask them for a copy of the contract in advance and get it read by some legal expert forum member here and check if it needs to be tweaked...
And if it passes there, you can go ahead and enjoy the offer, only if it benefits you.

Is it possible for you to tell us the topic of your site ?

 

I had a few unsolicited email offers to buy one of my sites. One was from some foreign firm trying to buy websites, probably trying to take advantage of unknowing webmasters, as their offer was pretty low...

I've also had people ask "can I have your site's cpanel login details?"

Supposedly they just wanted to check stats... yeah, just let me give you admin access... So just beware of sketchy people.

 

He might be a super noob just wanting attention?
HINT* we people of DP always like to see the site you are talking about.

 

Any potential buyer who does not lay the price and terms from the onset is probably not serious. From my own experience, they are hoping to get your site for a song. They usually disappear once you tell them the price tag, thinking they probably can build a competitor site to your for that amount of money.

 

Abhishek covered it.... especially if you are making good money from the site, why sell it unless they give you an offer too good to refuse!
