Ok, WTF is up with this?

It has been brought to my attention that some of my readers have been seeing this instead of ads:

    A new type of PSA?

What the hell is Google doing?

PSA I think if that's a PSA it's toital BS! I hope you get paid if someone clicks...but you should be paid like an affiliate!

I have a weblog with a comment system, and most of them also have blogs with adsense on them, so they know PSAs don't pay and I guess felt the need to inform me of that. Common cortesy, I guess :)

I myself haven't seen this new PSA, i always see either normal PSAs or ads.

I have seen that ad many times, sometimes even here on DP.
I think you actually do get paid for the clicks, but probably not very much.

I doubt it's a PSA. I think that this is just Google using their own ad network, bidding like everyone else.

These ads are targeted at the webmaster community, I doubt they would blatantly use this ad space to promote adsense without paying you. Unless it's in the TOS somewhere, but I don't remember seeing it.

You get paid for those. I used to get as high as $5 per click for those G sponsored ads.

Google get cheap advertising (on their network) and you get a higher revenue share!
    Everyone wins!

I've always looked at adsense with a sense of wonder at how they could do a win-win situation so nicely

You've got to admire google- they must make tons out of the adwords/sense setup.
I reckon about half of all the sites I visit use adsense- they have so much influence!

Sure he can. Alternate ads, and even collapsable ones.
