Online text Based Game Development

New here sorry if this thread comes off in the wrong manner..

Just thought I would let DP community know that with online text based games seem to be making a huge come back. With that said tmg-corporation.com has made quite a few very successful sites over the past few years.

Example: trumobsters.com

and a lot of smaller sites as well as sites still in development. Seems pimp games were huge. now its mafia, mobster, club, and industry based games doing the absolute best.

I'm posting this not as an advertisement but to let you all in on the industry for online gaming.

Flash game portals are dead. there is to many. clone sites such as kings of chaos, and many other open sourced scripts are very over rated and do not do as much or near traffic as a unique site built specifically for you or someone.

If interested in your own personal site scripts run in average of $500.00+ depending on graphics, features, options, and overall what you want in the site.

I agree there are a multitude of flash games and websites that have these flash games (which a flash game can now be made by a college/highschool student with a little bit of time on their hands) are coming out of the woodwork. I myself have played a txt based game it was a vampire/werewolf type thing and even though there werent really any graphics i found myself sitting there playing for hours. The money on these games are made by selling gamers "special" items and also giving the person more money in the game ect ect. If someone knows how to make a text game website i would recommend it. If you have a good story and know how to draw a person in your golden.

 

One of my games pulls in around 1,000 every two weeks

 

I currently bring in on one site alone $5k-9k in a 7 day week.

open since Oct. 15th ish last year.


total overhead a month 2000 each 7 days for a prize. and server costs abotu 10k a month.

so revenue in 20k-36k a month.
overhead a month 10k (advertising included)

profit 10-26k a month.

thats from one site alone.

I have a client who brings in double this that I finished his for him back in November last year.

Not bad numbers.

and graphics if done right will give a very good look and feel for the site and play.

Wow that's great TJ!

I was making a MMORPG but it folded because I realised that I was working with nerds and was getting annoyed, but that's another story.

How do you advertise yours out of interest?

 

-top game portal banners/links
-engine submissions (helps to use mod rewrite for the content side of things. gets twice as many pages spidered)
-adbrite and adengage for a while they are useless
-yahoo ads great
-google is ok

-email advertisments (list over 57 million about 43 million still active over past 7 years.)
-cross site advertising. (own multiple sites and cross link)


Above seems to be the best ways I have found so far. besides member support with referrals. offering extra items for each referral.

I build custom scripts starting at $3,000
but have premade scripts for as little as $500.00

Largest script I've built was total with upgrades threw time $35,000.00
that site is pulling about 30-55k a month now. Client is very happy.

Servers to support all size community's.
