Opinion: How Long Will Web Design Last?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Scott Botkins, Oct 28, 2005.

    Hello,

I was wondering today about my career and running my web design business. Will web design still be around in 20-30 years? In my opinion it will be as the internet isn't even old yet and also company's are always going to need designs or redesigns. But to those of who are more experienced in the market, how long will this career job be around?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Well look at the television. It's been around for longer than I have and it is still going strong. I guess the internet will be the same way. But just as changes had to be made and players fell by the wayside with the advent of colour tv, so will those who are involved with the internet (in any aspect) who do not keep up with the latest developments.

Web design has alrready changed drastically since I went online. Was battling a site I did in 2003 without CSS. It is a mess. For small maintenane fee not inclined to redo.

I think there will be a need due to rapidly changing technology. Those that stay in business better expect to keep current.

The future of web design is going to be with people who can make interactive websites, even more so than today.
So staying on top of stuff like PHP etc is what you'll have to do because I cant see static sites cutting it for much longer :D

Internet changes too fast ..so I would not like to guess the answer to the question.

The general rule of all business is that the big fish eats the small fish. In this field, the future will always be uncertain .

If you look around , you will notice that there are already sites and software that allow users to make web pages without any prior knowledge of programming. Maybe someday someone will come up with a complete software ,that will do all designing and loading by itself depending on user inputs.

Another posibility is coming up of super sites..which will have all that one requires from the net. Google is an index which can direct you to any type of information that you require..but it does not store the information that you require.

Tommorow of internet and IT is beyond anyone's imagination . Just keep your eyes open and adopt as much as you can.

I think it is best to stop worrying about the future ..my policy is simple ..I work as hard as possible and save as much as possible..there is no security of income when you are working in IT field which changes face everyday.

Okay, so there's no point to panic right? Long as I just keep up with what clients want I should be fine? I know I'm fine for the next 5-10 years as I don't see anything changing drastically, I think we'll always do the basic of making the graphic design then coding it in html or css along with the other lang. such as php and what not.

True. Graphic designing need creativity ...and no software will replace the creativity of the human mind - thought the tools that you use for it, may change with time.

True as well, we won't always have Adobe to open up to, something bigger and better will come along and I'll just have to adapt to that.
