Opinions and suggestions on CMS for my parenting site..?

Hello everyone, thanks for reading my thread.
I'm starting up a parenting site that will have a forum, a links directory, a blog, an article database, a newsletter as well as traditional HTML content with local resources for parents. I've never used a CMS before and I was wondering if I could get some recommendations/opinions. I wouldn't mind using something that's included in Fantastico since it's nice an easy to setup:
    Drupal
    Geeklog
    Joomla
    Mambo Open Source
    PHP-Nuke
    phpWCMS
    phpWebSite
    Post-Nuke
    TYPO3
    Xoops

Doesn't have to be one of those if there's something better out there...

Joomla or Mambo will do it easily with no re-coding. But so will the others, I guess.

I friend runs a site with SoopPortal (soopportal.com) about parenting. His site is madmums.com which will show you what can be done with the portal.

I highly reccomend Joomla or Drupal for all your site management needs. Drupal fits best for more blog-style sites with a few static pages, while Joomla acts like a bit more of a professional solution.

I use them both in different situations. There are many templates freely available for each, or you can code your own.

I use Geeklog for my main web site at www.ebusinesstutor.com. I love how it works. However, I am not that technical so I did have a programmer set it up for me and I had a custom look designed.

I love that I can manage my own site with Geeklog.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to check out the links you gave me and think about this for a bit. I'm not in a big huge rush with it so I'd like to only do this once. :) By the sounds of things it'll be Joomla that I'll go with, but not without taking a look at these links first. :) Thanks again!

that's a pretty nice theme ebusiness... and glad I'm not the only one who likes geeklog... we're pretty few and far between it seems like.

if you ever get tired of it let me know. I might be able to come up with something... (examples at stablewoodfarmshoa.com, jetshack.com and pryoralumni.com)

on another note and I'm not trying to start a which cms is better discussion, but comparativily speacking how is joomlas security better than geeklogs?

To come back to the first question:
Is this a one man show or will you have editors you want to grant the right to edit a section? Geeklog has a great rights management especially usefull for editor groups. There are plugins for a forum, links, blog, article database, a newsletter. I`d suggest try out a few systems. Geeklog is rather a tool you need to read and understand a lot.

Excuse me but it is the other way round and that is mainly because of the convenient automatic installation stuff mambo / joomla have and the online editing of the config.php. Off course if you know what you are doing then you can harden that but it usually also takes away the automatic functions.
