One of our sites was voted Cool Site of the Day. I know a few others have (Thanks for the PMs on expected traffic), so I am going to report back

    1. Number of uniques generated
    2. Number of conversions from Cool Site Visitors
    3. Amount of unique AdSense revenue (I believe that complies with the new TOS)
    4. Number of uniques that click through at least once
    5. Long term I will try to estimate links generated (although more difficult

If you are in a nice mood you can vote below for us today!
    Cheers

Should be interesting to see if it was worth the $27 - How long ago did you submit your site?

About a month ago but it was reviewed within a week and they send you a future date if you are accepted. I can tell you that financially, I can already tell it will be worth the $27 as far as AdSense. However, so far the click through and the conversions is pretty bad from the non adsense adverts or the sponsoring site.

Its early days as the newsletter hasn't gone out yet (in a few hours) and that goes to around 70-80,000 subscribers.

I have always thought the big benefit will be the buzz and the links it provides. I already hade about 100 uniques from one forum it was posted in. Plus the Cool Site of the Day Archives usually are a PR7.

    Food for thought anyway.

Ah - that sounds good then - I bet they're raking it in as a site! I wonder how many submissions they get a day and how many get rejected? Must be a good few bob in it.

I bet they do too. You do have to remember though that their is a history with Greg and Cool Site. This isn't a new site built on a whim and although it isn't what it used to be (no longer cutting edge, etc) it still has its moments.

Hell yeah - there's been a lot of brand building and genuine history there. Another example of such a simple idea becoming a good earner as well. It does one thing and does it well for thousands of people who trust it. There's a lesson there somewhere. :)

    1. 5300 on the day although we are getting a lot from their archive now
    2. 3 conversions (Sales) directly from these unique visitors excluding Adsense
    3. More than the submission fee - Around .7% click through rate
    4. Nearly the same as the Adsense, about .7% left the actual tool page to go elsewhere in the site
    5. Obviously this is more difficult as its only the day after but we got links on some PR5 and PR6 sites (around 5 or 6) and about 30 links from different forums. We will also be on the Cool Site Archive Page for April which general will ge a PR6 or 7 and is permanent. All of our research so far has to do with clickthroughs as I am sure there are a lot of links we don't know about yet because no one has clicked on them.

    A couple of observation/tips:

Have a framebreaker when someone leaves the page. Cool Site doesn't allow one on the page that is featured because it messes up their voting system but I would definately break that frame once they click through.

Because they use a frame system, your adsense ads will not be relevant. They will most likely be for logo design and these type. I think this hurt us when it came to click through percentages.

All in all it was worth it and provides a lot of exposure. I would definately suggest it for anyone despite the amount of untargeted traffic you get.

So it's 27 bucks - not bad if you get picked. How many sites in a given day? (i.e. what are the odds?) Or is it just your site that gets reviewed alone for the entire day?

Only one is featured each day but how I have heard its done in an interview is that your submission just goes in a queue. Each site is looked at but not necesarily on the day its submitted (mine was reviewed about 6 days after I submitted it)

I have no idea how many submit a day and it would be interesting to hear from someone that wasn't accepted

    Just FYI.

3 of your visitors ended up on my site (JNS) yesterday. No sales unfortunately.

They seem to accept all types and some I wouldn't call cool (they seem to accept charity sites fairly readily which is good for the charity but I wouldn't really call them cool)

The best thing to do is go to the archive and look through the ones that have been accepted. Todays is the Mustache Championships which is pretty cool in my opinion.
