Partnership question...

If you had an idea for a business venture, and I mean a full business plan, all the idea on paper etc.., but needed a partner to help put your ideas into reality, would you say a 50/50 split of the business is fair?

The reason I ask is because I have developed a business idea (and put a lot of work into developing it), but I need a second person on board to help get the idea off the ground and into development.

He has suggested a 50/50 split (or a 49/49 split and giving 2% to a third party).
I'm just not too sure if I should give such a high percentage of this possible business away?

    Your advice is always appreciated.

    Thanks

50% of something is better than 100% of nothing!

It really depends how much of the work the partner is doing. If you're the brains and he's the muscle, then I would say 50/50 is pretty fair.

You can offer higher percentage to him if he will work as industrial partner in your partnership. The main point of giving him much share is he'll work more compared to you. On the other hand, you can give him 50-50 offer.

Sounds fair but it depends on the workload split and input.

It depends, An Idea is nothing if you cant personally act on the idea without help . You have to decide whether you want to hire out the work and own 100% ( making sure you get the correct papers signed like an NDA and making sure you employ someone from your own country to make sure there are no legal difficulties ) OR whether you want a partnership with someone that CAN make your idea happen which makes that partner an incredibly integral part of your business. 50/50 or nothing i would say.

If the other party is investing a considerable amount (and is the main/sole investor) then the 49/49 split is very fair in my opinion.
