Then why do you have to format 3 times every year? If it's working, it shouldn't ever need to be formatted at all.

I'd be interested to know where he gets his information from, and exactly what he means by 'performance drops over time'. I owned a small boutique PC maker for 3 years before I sold it, and I can see no facts or figures that would allow him to come to such a conclusion. As for the old AMD vs. Intel; They're not equal. Not at all. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but I have my preference.

Well base on my exoerience using AMD and Pentium processors the only difference is that AMD's temperature is quite higher than Pentium but I think it will depends on what Processor Fan and Heat sink you are using.

Maybe its because of XP's firewall that websites loads slower than using Win98:)

I have two OS on same computer. 98 and xp.

98 is so much faster, and that is why I never deinstalled him. Every single software runs instantly. Iam talkink about same versions of programs installed on both systems. Browsing through internet is about 5x faster in 98. Multitasking flying. I dont know why but OS ruining quality of hardware since windows 95.

When you install windows 98 he is about 200mb on hd. Can completely enter my ram. I love windows 98.

^^ Yeah, exactly.. XP is bit more stable, but as soon as you remove the ethernet cable, XP is useless because 98 is instantly.

Perhaps I have forgotten just how 'fast' 98 truly is. But I wouldn't be willing to go back to it to find out.

Yes, right, even i am not willing to go back, i agree it was fast, but was unstable for me and you are really forgetting the networking part. And, feel of XP is so much better than 98.

Actually, i have never used AMD, so i cannot really comment anything on the issue, i just believed what he said. But this comparison i heard was around 1.5 years back, maybe AMD are producing better chips now.

I guess it depends which line of processors you are talking about. I know that the duel core amd vs the duel core pentiums the amd wins hands down on both performance and heat. If i remember correctly a major factor to do with the performace is the memory controller for the amd is intergrated into the chip where as the intel is on the mb.

    edit: yeah just saw this

    amd wins hands down.
