People copying game, video and image desriptions.

Hi,

There are alot of entertainment sites online. To outperm them you need some different content, but if you have some the same, then it would be best to get unique written descriptions and titles for the games, videos and images.

The problem is that alot of people know that these are free videos, images, games that are considered to be in the public domain and will therefore just use them on their site. They will also grab the description and title for the content and think that is ok to use on their site aswell.

I am paying people to write this unique content and don't want it to be just taken as if it was something that I have also done like take it from another site. This is costing me alot of money to do this and I know that even though I am the first to have the content on the site, other sites will still rank higher than me for the same stuff.

Now how can I stop them from stealing this content or even lower the risk of them taking it. At the end of the day I am paying someone to write unique content but if people just take it and put it on their sites then there is no point in me wasting my money really.

Idea:

Divide your text in lines, and each line in left and wright
Then put your text in two columns, left column with text right-aligned
and right column with text left-aligned.

or at least, trying to protect

left column, line1 = "original tex"
right column, line1 = "t to protect"
left column, line2 = "or at least, tr"
right column, line2 = "ying to protect"

              LEFT|RIGHT
      original tex|t to protect
   or at least, tr|ying to protect
               ...|...

That way copy-and-paste would not work, because will get: "original tex or at least, tr ... t to protect ying to protect ..."

And using monospace fonts you can extent that idea using multi-columns

Ummm, that seems a lot of work and will probably not help in the search engines as it is splitter the words up into different columns. I need a similar solution, would it be best to write something on the bottom of each page saying that all writen content on this page including the game title, descriptions and images are copywrite.

I am not sure what is the best approache as I don't want a copyright essay down the bottom of every page.

 

Instead of paying people to write unique content... Just do as they do. When in Rome...

Are you sure they are taking your content?
The gamepacks provide descriptions. Are you allowing people to download the SWF files with the descriptions?

 

No one is taking my content, but I am worried that they may start doing it. I do not allow people or offer people to download my games, videos or images, but anybody can easily grab the files through their internet history cache or some other place on their computer as these things normall download automatically to the users computer. With the images, people can easily grab them by save image as and take the descriptions also.

I could do what others do and just use the descriptions and things that come with the games, but then I will not rank well in the search engines as it will be seen as duplicate content plus my site will just feel like any other site to the user.

Although people are not stealing my work I have had people do it in the past on other sections of my site and because this is an entertainment area I feel the risk of it happening is much higher as alot of youngsters who don't quite know right and wrong do it this way. Although I know there are alot of youngsters that do not do this and are very clever and most probably know more than me, but this is the likely audience group that are more likely to do it I would imagin.

It is like YouTube now, people are paying others to add youtube videos to their site. It says things like "add youtube videos to my site for $0.15 per video. All you have to do is grab the video source, the title and description and category".

Now that shows that some sites already takes youtubes descriptions and titles of the videos. I know youtube is youtube, but if they do it with youtube then they are probably most likely to do it with others.

 

Well, probably won't help on SEO terms, but it's not a lot of work. You need only a program at your server (PHP, PERL, ...) doing that: Getting your descriptions from your Database, splitting them, and filling the N columns.
