I used to use Fireworks when I was a newbie but nothing really beats the power of Photoshop.

I found fireworks was only any good for making buttons.. But that's just me.

Hmm. I tend to use both so I can't really tell you which one is best. But when I want to make a simple site, I tend to use Fireworks but when I want to create a top notch site, I use photoshop. It is alot easier to work with and have a few more features in my opinion.

Being a professional designer of 25 years, I would prefer Photoshop hands down. More you can do with it if needed. I used Fireworks before and lost interest due to the fact that I could do more with other programs. I have all I need with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Good luck!

People stating that Fireworks is good for only creating buttons is stating from the lack of knowledge as to what this program can really do. I suggest you go do some reading before making uneducated assumptions.

Fireworks "IMO" is MUCH easier for a newbie to learn than PS and it is a vector based program. I do recommend CS4 & up.

I use both! Since Adobe acquired Macromedia, Fireworks has been pretty well integrated with the platform. In the end it's what works best for you.

There are things that I can do and rock out in PS that I can't do as easy as in another program, but, I can go from concept to fully functional prototype in Fireworks faster than any other program I have ever found.. Yes, Im a PC.

I suggest that those learning take time and do some research, find out for yourself what is going to work best for you.

Nice Fireworks video here on exporting CSS & Layouts:

    NM.
