This one has a bit of history. When I was in college I was in a well known frat. We got into a row with our national organization (our chapter advisor was a scheming weasel) and when they tried to kick out two of our crew we each individually met with the national rep and calmly told him if he canned our two brothers, we'd do what brotherhood required... we'd resign the national frat.

They did what they threatened... we did what we'd promised... and we left them with 6 goofy sycophants and the rest of us formed a local fraternity. Our crest was a Phoenix rising from the ashes, which is exactly what we did. Our local frat grew like wildfire and kicked butt on the "greeks" that would have loved to look down on us if we werent whipping them at every competition available.

We later joined up with another national frat that wanted to come on campus. Those of us that'd been founders of course couldnt join officially, as we'd previously sworn an oath to another frat. The brotherhood we'd created grew and prospered, and eventually bought the house of our old frat, bulldozed it, and built a new chapter house where they once tried to kick out two of our guys and we'd remained united. [Paybacks are hell.]

Recently we were honored as the founders of their fraternity, 30 years later... cool to see the fruits of our efforts. [LOL. We were in our 20s when we'd done it... getting drunk and or laid... playing football, who knew it'd still be around in 3 decades?] Turned out their pledges still did a cheer I'd brought back to the frat from my stay with the Marine Corps (they were shocked to learn the origin).

I just saw a buddy mark a shot of me from that celebration on facebook... the camera was brutally honest with the circles under the eyes (sheeit! when did I start lookin old?!), but hey, I blame the alcohol. :p The girl behind me giving the thumbs down motion to something is TheBride.

On the bright side you can still carry them without a CCL.

[And to all... thanks for the birthday wishes. In deference to global warming we elected to go without candles this year.]

Using candles instead of light bulbs may have been a better choice. ;)
