Well my tip is put the letterboard at the bottom of the thread after the most recent post... and put one in the archives.

Anyone got any tips on how to get higher click throughs in forums?

one strategy that may be overlooked (although I have not tried it yet) is to make your forum as black and white (read bland) as possible... and then make the adsense block stand out either with images above it or by adding color to it..

most forums that I have seen look like an art project gone wrong.. with way too much color all over the place.. so that the adsense unit does not stand out at all..

For my case, I tried the method Critters listed (putting images on top of leader board) and I have been getting a high CTR from the my forums. Just throw some images related to your site content and make sure the ad blend with the forums color... it works for me ;)

Agree. Blend them in. To overcome ad blindness. Im going to try to rotate a gif banner and see if that works for each repeated visit of the same ip.

i have been advised that banner ads top and bottom of a forum (with blended in colors) is the way to go. I am currently testing this. I previously had a left side skyscraper.

you will find that click through rates in forums are generally low compared to other types of websites. so don't be too disappointed with a low click rate.

    best of luck :)

    I've got one ;)

Actually, I've put the Billboard Ad (728x90) at the bottom of the thread, after the latest post and just before Table with Quick Answer - Preview Here: http:// forum.overclockers .pl/files/forums_google_as.png (Please copy the link to the browser and delete the spaces inside the url. Oh those 10 posts... ;/).
I guess that's the idea that You're using in Your forums or much alike.

Before that, the Ad was shown between the first and the second post on page being viewed. That placement didn't perform well, so I changed it to the one, described above.

So what's the change you'll ask. Well, my click throughs have doubled, sometimes they're even triple, but that depends on the day.

I don't really understand what do You mean by saying, You've pust the Ads in the archives. Could You explain that, please?

Great post by Will.Spencer too! Congrats mate! I've been thinking about smth like that (additional column in forums), not neccesary with Google Adsense Ads, but it seems to work with them as well. I think I'll give it a head in my forums too. Thanks :D ;)

Of course click throughs in forums are basically low, but hey, we need to get them do better even though :)
