Placing Adsense on Freely Hosted Pages

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by PFCritics, Jan 21, 2006.

I'm curious if anyone has tried this and had any success at it. Let me give an example of what I mean(I'll use my site as an example).

    [Example]
My site is PFCritics, based on NFL football. Let's say I want to have subdomains like...

    browns.pfcritics.com
    steelers.pfcritics.com

...in which I allow some person to run a blog there for free, but I require that my Adsense ads be placed at the top of the page.
    [End Example]

Has anyone tried this(assuming it's allowed)? I've been wondering if something like this would basically generate more money without myself even really doing anything.

there are companies out there that offer free hosting, and are making a killing with third party ads on their clients sites.

My worry would be losing control over the ads, lets say they place some other contextual ads on there or put a phrase that draws attention to the ads. Your account could get into trouble... I guess you have to weigh the risks.

Oh yeah, those places giving you free websites and hosting do make a huge killing on ads placed!
I though about doing the same thing myself.
But too much trouble to keep track of the sites to make sure the ads are kept there.
If you subdomain out to someone, they have to have cpanel access. And poof! There go your adsense ads.

I would agree that using Adsense is a bit risky. Unless you keep a constant eye on the content of the pages you might be looking at some big trouble from Google. As a webmaster and Adsense account holder you will be held responsible for the content of those blogs, so if that person(s) post illegal content or violates the ToS in any way, your account might get banned.

Depending on the amount of pageviews you expect to receive, it might be a good option to consider using CPM advertising from places like Casale or Fastclick, or some CPA advertising related to your content.

I allow people to have sub-domains on my site with my google ads but its not any old person. They are mostly people I actually know in person or have known over the net for a long period of time. I make sure they know what they can/can't do and if they do something they shouldn't then its good bye to their account.
