    I like to have a game of poker now and then (normally in the bar down the road) but I'm always getting beat :)

    Can anyone recommend a good free online version to play.. free that is :)

    Well you can play for free online at any of the large poker places which I wont list but its easy enough to search for them.

    I went through this same thing..I play in a lot of tournaments so I wanted practice. I decided to go the software route instead. I don't really trust any of the free sites that were suggested to me.

    partypoker . net has a pretty good software package. I used it to learn Texas Hold Em, they also have 7 card stud, Omaha, 5 card stud and another game IIRC

    play on some online poker sites, like pokerstars or pacificpoker. Play with the fake money, it's free and good practice. Pogo has some good pokering too.

    Just don't play to much, it gets addictive. I've been using the one you can download from the 'dumb card game' in my sig, never paid any money but find myself playing it more than working at times :(

    I play but cannot stand playing online. I need to play for money and I need to see peoples faces.

    Down here we have a few places within a 15 minute drive.... the game can be tough as most of the players are older that dirt and have been playing longer than I have been alive. BUT...... they are also easier to read.

    To me nothing beats a real casino and not this online crap. :)
