    Hi!

    http://thehousethatkoenclairerebuilt.blogspot.com

This is my home renovation blog which I primarily set up for my family back in the UK to be able to follow our project. Of course when I found out I might be able to make some $$$'s I wanted in!

How do you like the layout of my blog? Are the ads in the right place? Should the google search bar have the same colour as my background?

I know because this is a hobby web site and not niche it's never going to be that profitable but I want to do all I can.
    Many thanks!
    Claire

    Looks fine to me.

As for the search bar, why do you have it at the top? I think you'd do better with a google text ad there

er I don't really know why it's at the top...

So should I maybe put an adsense banner there and move the search box all the way to the bottom or on the side somewhere?
Is there a limit to how many adsense units you can have?

    Thanks for answering!

    Yes, there is a limit....3

You can put a banner or a list link ... a list link is what I use here... http://www.learntoearn101.net/

And I also have my search box in the middle of the sidebar. It really doesn't get used that much. I'm not sure it's even worth having.

Yeah i've moved the search bar to the left side now as well. I have two blocks of adsense running down the lhside and a big block all the way at the bottom so I have three in total.

Do you think I should get rid of that big block at the bottom and put a banner across the top? I'm think there aren't going to be many people that go all the way to the bottom.

    Thanks for the tips!

ps sometimes if I check out adsense i've made 1cent but by the end of the day it's back to zero, what do you think this could be?

Looks like a good site, but I don't really know how much money you could make with it. I would use it to tell my friends/relatives about the progresses on the house...

    Anyway, good luck! :)

Don't know why the pennies change. Can't help you with that.

Yes, I would have an adsense banner at the top vs the bottom. That is better placement

lol i'm just excited that I got got 32cents for sitting on my back side;)

Yeah when I started the blog I didn't have a clue what I was doing so I though the address had to be the same as the title and I just took the template that had the nicest wallpaper. It is really bugging me though that it's too narrow and I can't fit much in.

Can I still change the template? Are the free ones anygood? I've heard that they're packed with extra scripts that slow everything down when loading.

Thanks for the tips, the three column blog looked a lot better!

i think its time you learn a basic html code... you may need some knowledge to read ready made available template.. free template exactly.... if you find unwanted script ... just remove them from the template... but make sure that you give some credits to the owner of the template for their hard work... use wisely...

I would say uSe a better design than this one.

If you need a good design you can get it at eblogtemplates.com and remember that the design is one of the greatest factor of a site.

    Congrats!! for your development...

Ok I figured out a few things,

I downloaded a basic 3 column template that I liked, I commented on their site and linked them on mine. The only backlink in the script was to their site and they had already mentioned it so I left it there.

I figured out with the html code how to add more space above and under the title, I made the middle section wider, changed some colours and stuff. Added labels to all of my old posts, added a link list etc

I think it looks much better although it's definetly a work in progress, reading those codes isn't as scary as I thought it would be. The only thing that hasn't worked is the favicon. I inserted it after the /title and before /head which was where it was supposed to go but it hasn't appeared yet, maybe it just takes a while.

Anyway any tips for this new and improved site are always appreciated, thanks for all you help!:D

Favorite Icons have to be saved in the ICO format on Photoshop; Photoshop cannot save files by ICO unless if you download the plugin for it. As for the reason why your image isn't showing. It's probably because it's in a PNG/GIF/JPG or some other format.

Also, I believe that standard ICO format images are supposed to be about 16 x 16px and no larger for them to work.

    I used this generator...

    http://www.iconj.com/icon_generator.php

to make it so normally is should be in ICO format, I think i'm just putting the code in the wrong place, I will keep playing with it, it's not like I really NEED it, I just want it!
    Thx
