Please explain this business model to me?

I see many sites listed on ebay for very, very high prices. They are very much not reaching any market that will purchase them, now do you absorb fees for items you don't sell? How do you make a profit with so much overhead, and no sales?

    Oh these sites are weak.

    Thanks for your time.

How is this for a business model:

You see lots of web sites on sale at eBay.
You create a web site and try to sell it on eBay for comprable prices.
You don't sell, and your cash starts to dwindle.
Your wife smacks you on the head and you finally get it.
    You are out of business.
But someone else sees what you were trying to do and thinks he will try it too . . .

    :D

So ebay is full of pre-smacked in the head webmaster-husbands, who have visions of wealth, and no clue about making money?

    Good one.

    ;)

    BUZZER! wrong!

There are a few webmasters that are using ebay to advertise! You can get a lot of traffic through advertising on ebay ( iow putting your site up for sale there for a high amount )

If someone is crazy enough to buy it, hey do it!
If they don't they will at least check the site out ( you did aswell, didn't you thread starter!! )

I think you nailed it on the head.

This would make sense as a calculated gamble that factors in auction fees vs. comparable advertising fees. It is just another variation of casino sites using ebay as a cheap advertising platform (ie., paying for a swiss cheese sandwich or winning the auction for a tatoo on a guy's head carries HUGE free media advertising and exposure).
