    Honestly I think that band of adsense around the perimeter is little distracting. Or is that the point? ;)

    Do not mix AdSense and selling other stuff unless you are 100% sure AdSense is not taking your business.

    The "banding" of the site by the adsense makes it look funny/cluttered, I'd reduce it down to one blended 768x90 block across the top.
    Also I disagree with the comment about using adsense with other sources of income, if your content is good people will come back. If it's not or they don't want to buy a link from your link selling site then you might as well make money by giving them the opportunity to leave the site via an adsense ad and make some $'s
