Please review adsense placement on my blog:
    http://linguisticszone.blogspot.com

    I am currently using:
    (1) 468x60 banner at the top, above the fold
    (2) 336x280 large rectangles, following the first 2 posts

Is there a better placement than this?

Note that I don't want the ads within the blog posts, I feel that it is too intrusive.

    My opinion is this.

    1) Too much content on the front page, try to limit the number of post that display on the front page. This will help utilize your Large Rectangles effectiveness. Being in such a clutter it's just "there", make it stand out by clearing up some of the stuff underneath it.

    2) Move the Ad Blocks up a little, IMHO, they're quite a ways down. Maybe move each block up one post?

    Good luck zan!

I do believe you can only have 1 link unit.

The first time I looked I totally missed the large rectangle - it just didn't catch my eye. Do you have an aversion to coloring differently the links that you want visitors to act on? I'd make the ads bright blue (#0000ff) and see if that raises the response. Good points above about adding adlinks to the menu.
