both are good, but pligg has more add-ons and templates(free). phpdugg templates aren't free.

    Hi,

I've tried both, and unless I wanted to devote my life to tracking down bugs and fixing problems, I wouldn't go near either.

Pligg's core architecture is unstable. Its design is problematic, and there is not real attempt to address basic issues that surround these kind of applications such as scalability and security (e.g. spam protection). Over the last two years, I keep revisiting the product, and it is now clear to me that the product is hopeless. The developers have an agenda which is not clear to me, but so far they have failed to come up with a usable product. It is a waste of time, unless you have lots of time, incentive, and money, and don't care if you do anything else in your life.

PHPDugg, is a toy. The developer built a very basic application, which cannot be seriously deployed. These kind of products need serious spam and security protection, as well as decent support. PHPDugg does not provide either. It is nice, if you simply want to decorate a site, but that is better done with Wordpress.

Drigg was an interesting attempt built on top of Drupal, but the developer of the product has cease supporting the product. CoRank is usable, but without fine control over the application and spam, it quickly spirals into a porn mess. SocialWebCMS, is a fork of Pligg, but their developers also have their own agenda which I have no idea what it really is, are non-responsive, and too risky for me, since I have to build a serious site. They act more like a club than a real business product.

If I build a digg-like application on my site, I will have to do it from scratch. The real cost is building the backend administration piece. Maybe, if possible, I will build it on Wordpress.

I've used both and of the 2 Pligg is the better. Though I do agree about doing it from scratch. I just setup a site using Pligg and am already considering coding my own.

I changed over to SocialWebCMS after they left Pligg. I haven't though paid any attention to the site I use SocialWebCMS for for many months and haven't visited either forum since last year.

It's disappointing that the developer of Drigg has given up as that was looking quite promising - just last year they had four people working on it.

If you ask me which is the best social bookmarking script then it's best to pick SocialWebCMS

Has anyone here tried the new/latest version of pligg? Any significant improvements?
