    Can anyone recommend a super light Windows application to crop and resize images? Preferably freeware, preferably open source.

    All I want to do is crop, resize, and export to jpg, gif and png.

    I've tried Picasa, and it was hopeless. I've just picked up an EeePC 901, and I don't want to install Photoshop on it unless I really have to. I'm after something with a simple UI, and something that doesn't require MS .NET.

    I will suggest GIMP.org Although it may not be the single most lightweight thing ever, it's incredibly powerful, free and open-source, and it requires far less resources that Photoshop would.

    GIMP can do all of these things plus more, and even though I went and bought Adobe Creative Suite and use it every day alongside Photoshop because they have different strengths and weaknesses.

    Adobe Fireworks i suggest you will find it easy to work on it than photoshop try it out

    GIMP and Fireworks are both overkill for what I want to do.

    I'm really looking for something with a tiny install size, and very VERY basic functions. I was thinking of installing an ancient version of PSP, but even that is overkill for just cropping and resizing.

    I've just started using PhotoFiltre, and it seems like it's going to be perfect for the tiny EeePC screen - and it's only a 1.6mb install file.

    What OS are you using? If Windows, Microsoft Office Picture Manager is the only simple tool you need :)

    I dont know why you dont want to have photoshop on your PC although in my opinion its the most simple way to get the things done you are looking for...Photoshop CS 4 will be light and suitable for ur pC, do try it!

    Because the 901 has a tiny screen and an 8GB drive, neither of which I want to fill up with Photoshop - especially for the simple tasks of cropping and resizing :p

    Use IrfanView. It is light and user-friendly.
    since you only want to worked with something like resizing & cropping photos, then IrfanView is a good light software to be used.
    It also have some basic picture effect in it.
