Prenuptial agreements?

Are prenuptial agreements something that only millionaires and actors use, or do the "normal" people also use them?

I just can't picture myself telling my future wife "hey, I love you with all my heart.. but could you sign this just in case?"...

 

More and more people use such nowaday.

 

My dad is getting divorced right now. He's not a millionaire, well possibly if you add up all his worth he more than likely is but cash value I doubt it. If however he did not have a prenup he'd be fuxxed. Even with it his wife of 7 years has been bitching and moaning about the prenup since the beginning, now that they are getting divorced she is not due anything so she is resorting to black mail in order to attempt to get anything she can. In his case already having lived most of his working life, gotten most of his wealth and posessions before marrying his current wife I'd definitely say it's something worthwhile. If you're young it might be a different story as the build up of wealth will be a joint venture, it also of course depends on the laws of divorce where you live. In Wisconsin unless there is a prenup it's basically 50/50 no matter the circumstances.

 

But how do you tell your girl about the prenup? Don't they freak out?

 

Something you have to deal with. It's really a must in every case to protect yourself. Your money is hard owned and your supporting your family and loved ones but if they arent in these categories anymore you should keep your money.

Something I would do 100% if I ever get married, although thats not something at the moment. I am just in love with my money and this beats any relationship I can currently have with a woman. M.O.B

I like to pull it out during the middle of making love so it's not so awkward.

I'd say it's just one of those things you kind of just have to throw out in the open, but you could probably sugarcoat it by saying "That's just if we get divorced and I don't ever plan on getting a divorce from you so let's just sign it and get it out of the way. I need it just in case you run into George Clooney and give in to temptation."

Our family roots don't follow that practice even if I think it somehow has its justified grounds.

 

our family doesnt have that kind of agreement....dunno but the couples these days....

 

I think a prenup would be easier to offer if both parties have a significant income. But if one person has a lot less than the other then it might seem like you are saying "you ain't mooching off me for the rest of your life!"
