Purpose of Google maps

Hi

i have a question

could anyone tell me what good can be done if we keep google sitemaps in our sites apart from the main seo point that sitemap easies the way of indexing the pages!!

and what if we use Google webmaster tools! Does it make any sense that Google finds out what we are doing and what we did and keep track of our se logarithms?

first of all i am absolutely NOT convinced that a google sitemap results in better indexing
there are other old threads HERE in dp forum whre other members made similar experiences ... resulting in the oppinion that a sitemap may be an exclusion list

i have deleted all my google sitemaps
without sitemap a new page is fully indexed and serps'd withhin about 3 days
with sitemap some pages never got indexed or if then it took a week or longer

that is a test i repeatedly made withhin the past 15 or so months

Using G webmaster tools will affect our seo?

 

i look at the 404 an dsimilar errors
but most of the time these data are of little value
right NOW these past weeks i have some 1682 page not found ( 404 ) listed there

in all the earlier years I never had any substantial 404 pages since i check all links continuously

if i look at the URLs then i see that this large number of 404 are all together fantasy URLs the googelbot is somehow creating by wrong behavior
none of the missing pages EVER existed and none has a URL that is nearly true

hence this case of 404 are a NEW version of Google-created errors i have no intentions to waste my time for. Google never had wrong URLs in all the past many years except now - may be another after-effect of "data-refresh" from june 27 ... it seems to me that after the june 27 event google has most serious quality problems

rather than using google webmaster tools i use my own tools like statistics, etc to control the quality of trffric on a daily or continuous basis and to isntantly rectify where needed.

but that doesnt answer my questions yet...I just am curious to know whether using G tools will reflect some of our seo tricks to google?
