Putting Banner Ads Into Software?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by bradical, Jul 14, 2006.

Has anyone had experience with putting banner ads from a third party banner advertising company into your software downloads?

I have a software product and am thinking of adding banner ads to it in an effort to recoup distribution costs and make a little profit. Can anyone recommend a third party ad serving company with an easily implementable script for advertising within the software interface?

    Thanks!

I've thought about doing that, seems like a neat idea to try. Although I've never tried it.

No ad network will let you do this. Besides, how are you going to serve the ads?

That's one of the model which Eudora uses. I've seen other banners in software before but don't remember the names now. I believe it would work if the program is internet based and is connected to the web for one reason or another. If not, offline banner serving is not going to help.

Right, the application is constantly connected to the internet. I have seen similar banner ad usage in file sharing software... So I know it can be done. Any ideas on ad networks that allow it?

If your softwares really that good, add a donate button. It will be much better for you and your software in the long run. Believe it or not, people do donate to you if what you have made is truly good.

Personally, I would avoid software with banners and popups, why not charge for your software, you would probably make more that way. Banners do not make a lot if people avoid them or if you do not have a critical mass.

With the software you could create a frame deal that includes a HTML page and this HTML page will update every so often. This ishow it is done in alot of programs. That is why when you start the program up and you are not connected to the internet, a "page not found" appears. It looks really tachy :p
