Question about amount of ads on page.

I have a medium rectangle, ad link unit, and a few different referrals (firefox, and google toolbar) on my pages currently

I was wondering if I could still add a banner style ad to the page. I'm wondering if its even worth it too, do they get clicked on as much as text ads?

I always find that the best way to improve adsense profits is to improve the placement of current ad units instead of adding more units.

Have you tried experimenting with horizontal link units? If you place one under your horizontal menu bar blenden in black with orange link, it should do well.

p.s. i like how you've put your own photos next to the square ad units!

imo minimum ads are best. :)
because it bring two extremely important things to your site.
    !) Sophistication
    @) Higher CPC.

hmm, this has brought up some other ideas.

You said its better to have quality over quanity. I am thinking about taking out the referrals scattered throughout the content. It doesn't seem like anyone ever clicks on them. I've had them there for about two months and I get a click maybe three times a week, but I've only ever had one conversion, so they seem pretty useless. Its just that a huge block of text like that can get strainful on the eyes after awhile and you tend to lose your place. So i thought I would stick some pictures throughout the content portions of the site and thats where I originally got the idea to add the referrals, but now I'm thinking I might just take them out or put in horizontal image ads ( why I made this topic ).

Also, the link unit at the top would be a pretty good idea, I might try it out soon, but for now I think I'll leave it where it is. I think eventually I will add amazon ads to the side under sponsors and maybe move the google adlink unit bar thing to the top like you suggested.

any more opinions now that I've said all this?

Remove the refferal ads for deffo, I was going to mention that but I didnt notice any on your site. the refferal ads only earn money for webmaster type webpages, or if you get friends to sign up to adsense via your link.

    re: trying amazon ads

as far as i know they are best for sites with alot of traffic, say 500 or more uniques a day. but you will probably find some relevant books that might do well.

theres nothing wrong with experimenting with the image banner in adsense, you can always remove it if things dont improve. but make sure you make a written log of your earnings fugures before and after the changes. u need to be able to evaluate every tweek you make.

good luck with your changes, hopefully some other people will offer their opinions too.

well, I just tried adding the link unit under my top nav and I don't know how much I like it.

    Take a look for yourself:

I'm not sure if the colors are showing up right, I changed it in the code but I don't think its taken affect yet for some reason. it should be the dark grey color, but the ads background might be black, just imagine it as gray. Anyways, it seems kind of cluttered don't you think?

I think it looks ok. Theres always a trade off between profitability and appearance.

Its been 5 days since you made the change, have you noticed any change in CTR? You probably have to implement the change on more pages to notice any results.

Changing ad placement on lots of pages can be a nuisance because you never really know if its going to pay off...
