Questiong regarding invalid links

If there was a company who was purposely trying to get you banned from the SE's what would they need to do to accomplish this? I am asking this because I came across 2 websites that seems to be doing fairly nefarious things with inbound links.

They both look like link farms to start with. Then they:

-linked to our pages with exact replicas of our linking structure but used white on white.

-had links to our site in black on black, but put ttp://www.ourdomaininfo.com and left the 'h' out. They used our exact linking structure again, almost mirroring our pages.

Would either of these pages have a dramatic affect, if so, please explain so I can explain it to the lawyers who will be creating the cease and desist letter.

I ask this, because every link they have on their page to ours, has 0PR or N/A and no backlinks or cached pages. Thank you in advance. I would be happy to PM the links to someone if they want to delve deeper.

The whole thing does sound pretty dodgy. Although, I don't think incoming links can get you banned from Google IMO. At least, I hope they don't. As you don't have control on incoming links.

So, IMO as long as you haven't provided reciprocal links back to these sites, you should be all right. I am sure Google must consider these factors before banning websites.

Can anyone enlighten me what the site with hidden links have to gain? Could someone be paying them thinking they could harm new computer?

    I doubt it.

From what he has described, I have no idea how that would harm NC's site.

I may be wrong, but I'd be seriously amazed if it harmed NC's site. We're not talking about duplicate content here. And even that you'd have to be unlucky to have it effect you. (But it certianly happens - to lots of people.)

Possibly! Although IMO, I don't think you will be able to harm nc's website by following these steps, no matter how dodgy they sound. Or else, we would all be registering random domain name and creating hidden links to all the sites that rank higher than ours in SERPs to get them banned and move to the top. :)
