Delete if of course. I don't know about spam though, so I'm not sure if spammers use a proxy, but take sn and report the ip.

If it's wordpress sign up for Akismet which is a really good spam blocker (available for other blogs too I think)

and there's spamkarma too. They have different ways of dealing with it, some stop them from being posted, akismet quietly gets rid of it but builds up a community profile of the spam to jointly increase the protection.

The sad indictment is that this spam must be linked to a site that people actually want. The mind boggles.

If neither of those options are suitlable let us know what blogging system you use.
Good luck getting a solution installed.

I'd love to say "hey help us clean up the web" but it's exhausting. These guys employ the equivalent of drug mules - people from eastern bloc countries, central and south america and the sub continent. People who will run scripts and post for pennies. Their IP gets blocked, they disconnect and redial. They get banned, no bother, onto the next person for whom pennies are a fortune. You can't blame the mule, they're just trying to get by - and getting to the spam-lord or filth merchant is going to require significant effort - and is probably best left to the police. I haven't tried going down that line but there are laws about obscene publications in most countries. Give you content for your blog as you record your endeavours with the authorities!!!

I hate to say "do nothing" and you should act if you feel it's the right thing to do.

Keeping the spam off any site you control is a huge thing though, if their spamming works they'll just keep going. Deleting it tells them that it's not tolerated in your corner of cyberspace.

From the Blogs I run that allow comments, It is usually scripts that post the spam and not real people.

Of course keep a record of the comments, including IP addresses and server log files, but also remove them ASAP!

I Implement all sorts of anti-spam measures to eliminate spam getting into my blog comments, and additionally, I also block the IP address every time that I get a spam message. It can take a little bit of time to build up a nice blacklist of sites that cannot post comments, but it is worth it.

Don't rely on just one method of blocking comment spam, implement as many as possible - spammers are scum so do whatever you need to block their comments getting posted to your blog.
